Publication Ethics

Origo Medica Journal is committed to upholding the highest standards of academic integrity, ethical publishing practices, and scientific responsibility in all editorial, peer-review, and publication processes.

The journal is committed to:

  • Implementing the highest standards of academic integrity in research, education, and scholarly publication;
  • Actively preventing plagiarism, data fabrication, falsification, duplicate publication, and other forms of publication misconduct;
  • Ensuring that editorial decisions remain independent from commercial, institutional, or personal interests;
  • Maintaining transparency, accountability, and fairness throughout the publication process.

Origo Medica Journal adheres to international and national publication ethics standards established by:

  • COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics)
  • ICMJE (International Committee of Medical Journal Editors)
  • ARJUNA (Indonesian Journal Accreditation)
  • ANJANI (Indonesian Academic Integrity Platform)

ARJUNA and ANJANI Compliance

Origo Medica Journal complies with all applicable standards and regulations established by the Indonesian Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology through ARJUNA and ANJANI.

The journal supports national academic integrity initiatives through plagiarism detection, ethical screening, and research quality assurance mechanisms. Manuscripts submitted to the journal may be evaluated using similarity-checking software integrated with recognized academic repositories and indexing systems.


COPE Compliance

Origo Medica Journal follows the principles and flowcharts provided by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) in handling:

  • Plagiarism allegations
  • Duplicate submissions
  • Authorship disputes
  • Data fabrication or falsification
  • Ethical complaints
  • Conflicts of interest

All editorial decisions regarding suspected misconduct are handled objectively and confidentially in accordance with COPE guidelines.


Research Ethics for Human and Animal Studies

All research involving human participants or animal subjects must comply with internationally accepted ethical standards, including the Declaration of Helsinki and relevant institutional or national ethics regulations.

Manuscripts involving human or animal subjects must include:

  • Name of ethics approval authority;
  • Approval/reference number;
  • Date of approval (if applicable);
  • A clear statement of ethical compliance in the Methods section.

For studies involving human participants, authors must confirm that informed consent was obtained.

For identifiable images, case reports, or patient-specific data, written consent for publication must be obtained and retained by the authors.

For animal research, authors must clearly state compliance with institutional and international laboratory animal welfare guidelines.


Editorial Responsibilities

The editors of Origo Medica Journal are responsible for maintaining publication quality and ethical integrity.

Editors shall:

  • Evaluate manuscripts solely based on scientific merit;
  • Maintain confidentiality throughout the review process;
  • Avoid conflicts of interest;
  • Ensure fair and unbiased editorial decisions;
  • Coordinate double-blind peer review objectively;
  • Take responsive action when ethical concerns arise;
  • Follow COPE procedures for misconduct investigations.

Editors shall not discriminate against authors based on nationality, institutional affiliation, ethnicity, religion, gender, political beliefs, or academic seniority.


Reviewer Responsibilities

Reviewers play a critical role in maintaining the scientific quality of the journal.

Reviewers are expected to:

  • Provide objective, constructive, and timely reviews;
  • Maintain strict manuscript confidentiality;
  • Declare any conflicts of interest;
  • Report suspected ethical concerns or misconduct;
  • Refrain from using manuscript content for personal advantage.

Reviewers who are unable to complete a review within the assigned timeframe should notify the editorial office promptly.


Author Responsibilities

Authors submitting to Origo Medica Journal must ensure:

  • The manuscript is original and unpublished;
  • The manuscript is not under consideration elsewhere;
  • All data are accurate and honestly presented;
  • Proper citation and acknowledgment of sources are provided;
  • All listed authors meet authorship criteria;
  • No ghost, honorary, or guest authorship is included;
  • Any conflicts of interest are fully disclosed;
  • Ethics approval is documented when required.

Plagiarism and Similarity Screening

All submissions are screened using plagiarism detection software.

The journal does not tolerate:

  • Plagiarism
  • Self-plagiarism
  • Duplicate publication
  • Redundant publication
  • "Salami slicing" publication practices

Manuscripts with unacceptable similarity levels will be rejected or returned for clarification.


Data Integrity and Reporting Standards

Authors must present data accurately and transparently.

The journal reserves the right to request:

  • Raw data;
  • Ethics approval documentation;
  • Clinical trial registration information;
  • Supporting methodological documentation.

Fabrication, falsification, selective reporting, or manipulation of research data constitute serious ethical violations.


Image Integrity

Image manipulation that alters scientific meaning is strictly prohibited.

Permissible adjustments include only minor modifications for clarity (brightness, contrast, resolution) provided they do not misrepresent original findings.


Authorship Changes

Changes in authorship (addition, deletion, or reordering of authors) after submission require:

  • Written justification;
  • Approval from all listed authors;
  • Editorial approval.

Changes after acceptance will only be considered under exceptional circumstances.


Conflict of Interest

All authors, reviewers, and editors must disclose any financial, professional, institutional, or personal relationships that could influence editorial objectivity.


Corrections, Retractions, and Ethical Complaints

When significant errors or ethical breaches are identified, the journal may publish:

  • Corrections
  • Expressions of concern
  • Retractions

Ethical complaints will be investigated thoroughly and confidentially following COPE procedures.


Peer Review Policy

Origo Medica Journal implements a double-blind peer review system in which author and reviewer identities are concealed throughout the review process to ensure impartial evaluation.
